Staying Connected: How to Sync Your Apple Devices

In 2021, Apple announced a fantastic feat: one billion active iPhones around the world. And, although the iPhone is the superstar of Apple’s product lineup, many people who buy this mobile phone end up turning into loyal customers.

As a result, they look to Apple when it is time to buy a new computer or tablet. Of course, owning multiple iOS devices is quite beneficial, as they all work with iCloud. This makes it easy to sync Apple devices, allowing you access to your music, calenders, iMessages, notes, and more on all of your devices.

Are you having trouble figuring out how to sync your Apple devices? If so, be sure to keep reading for instructions.

Sync Apple Devices with iCloud

iCloud isn’t only for backing up your data. It is also the most efficient way to share data across devices. So, here is how to get started.

  1. Go to device settings and set up iCloud on your iPhone, if you haven’t already
  2. Enter your login details
  3. Select which data you want to share with other devices
  4. Repeat steps one and two on your other devices
  5. Ensure your WiFi is turned on

After going through these steps, your devices should automatically sync. And, when you add new data or update notes or calendars, your devices will automatically update with a WiFi connection.

iCloud Storage Plans

While all users get 5GB for free, you will need to purchase an iCloud storage plan if you have a lot of data to share or backup.

Thankfully, plans aren’t too expensive, and 50 GB of storage is less than one dollar a month. But, of course, if you want as much storage as possible, you can purchase the 2 TB plan, which costs a little less than ten dollars a month.

Of course, you may not want to pay for an iCloud subscription, and that’s okay! There are several other options for syncing your devices.

Sync Apple Device with iTunes on Computer

If you don’t have enough storage space on iCloud or prefer to go another route, there’s always iTunes. You can use it to sync data to your devices, but it is not as convenient as the previous method. So here’s how to go about it.

  1. Launch iTunes on the computer and connect your first device with a USB cable
  2. Click on the device icon within iTunes
  3. Select the content you wish to transfer (movies, videos, photos, apps)
  4. Once the content is synced to iTunes, connect your second Apple device
  5. Now, repeat steps 2-3 with your second device

Of course, you’ll need to repeat this process any time you want to sync your iOS devices.

Use iTunes to Sync Devices Without a Computer

If you don’t have access to your computer or are tired of having to plug your devices into it every time you need to transfer data, you can set up iTunes WiFi Sync.

However, you will need to complete some steps with iTunes on the computer to get started. So, here’s what to do.

  1. Activate” iTunes WiFi Sync” in your settings
  2. Open iTunes and plug in your devices
  3. After clicking on the device in iTunes, select “options”
  4. Now, click “Sync with this (iPhone/Pad) over WiFi”
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 on your second device
  6. Eject both devices
  7. To transfer your files over WiFi, go to General > iTunes WiFi Sync > Sync Now

Since you’ve already set it up, you no longer need to plug in your devices or use the computer to complete a data transfer.

Sync Your Devices Using Bluetooth

If you need to share data between two of your devices in a hurry, without a computer or iCloud, Bluetooth is a good option. However, you should keep in mind that it isn’t as effective and has some disadvantages.

First of all, it is not as secure, especially if you are in a public place. Thus, you should never share sensitive or personal information over Bluetooth.

Moreover, Bluetooth data transfers use a lot of battery power, so you will want to be plugged into your charger. And, lastly, Bluetooth 4.0 can only share 26 MB per second, which means that large transfers will take some time.

Nevertheless, if it is your only option or you don’t mind its drawbacks, here is how to complete a transfer using Bluetooth.

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone
  2. Select General > Network > Cellular, and turn on “Personal Hotspot”
  3. Now, return to General and select Bluetooth
  4. Turn on Bluetooth on your second device
  5. Scan for devices until yours becomes available
  6. Pair the devices and sync your data

Of course, if you only need to share a few files rather than syncing your devices, you can use AirPlay.

Pairing AirPods with Apple Devices

Syncing devices isn’t just about transferring data. You may also want to pair your Airpods with your devices so that they automatically connect. This is quite simple, but here is how to do it.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on your device
  2. Open your AirPods charging case
  3. Select AirPods in Bluetooth settings
  4. Confirm the pairing

After the first pairing, your device should automatically connect with your AirPods anytime you open the charging case. However, if you’re having problems connecting your AirPods to your iOS devices, check out https://setapp.com/
