Do you feel like your computer performance is slowing down even though you use Windows 10? Windows 10 is a speedy operating system (particularly on modern hardware); it will eventually slow down due to various circumstances, such as compatibility issues and bugs, viruses or other sorts of malware, and so on.
Although some enhancements you can make to your laptop to make it run speedier, some improvements are more cost-effective and straightforward to implement. These tiny modifications may not appear to speed up your computer’s performance, but when combined, they can allow you to keep your PC running for years.
This guide covers nine ways to improve the performance of windows pc efficiently without swapping out any hardware.
Ways to improve Windows PC performance
1. Optimize your startup apps setting:
When your windows pc boots up in a long time then your computer may use a lot of startup applications and programs. To fix this problem, follow the steps below.
i. open Task Manager of your pc.
ii. When the Task Manager window appears then click on the “Startup” tab.
iii. After clicking, you see a list of programs that your pc takes as startup apps. In that list of apps and programs you can see the impact section that shows which program impacts how much in boot up and the scale of measuring the impact is “low-medium-high”.
iv. Examine anything rated as having a “high” or “medium” impact to see if it is essential, then leave it and if it is not vital, then disabled it.
v. To disable any unnecessary app you have to select that app then click the disable button, which is located at the lower right corner of the popup window.
2. Remove Bloatware and Superfluous Apps:
Startup apps are only half of the solution to improve Windows PC’s performance. There are some programs on our pc that always run in the background whether it is open or not but we can’t find which program that is running in the background is useful and which is not useful. So the better solution to this problem is to uninstall apps that are useless for you, including bloatware apps that are preinstalled on your windows computer.
To uninstall these types of app follow the steps below –
i. Go to Windows Setting > App.
ii. Look at the list of apps and click any app you want to uninstall.
iii. After clicking on any app, you will see two buttons move and uninstall,
iv. Click on the uninstall button to uninstall that Bloatware and Superfluous apps.
3. Tweak the Power Plan:
Change in power setting can also improve the performance of a Windows PC. By default, Windows 10 utilizes a “balanced” power usage strategy, which can occasionally degrade performance. The balanced setting of power can cause the low speed of your CPU. To change the power setting to improve the performance of a Windows PC follow the steps below –
i. Go to the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options of your windows PC.
ii. Click “Show Additional Plans,” then click on “High Performance.”
iii. Click on the Change advanced power settings to customize advanced settings for the power plan.
4. Stop Background Updates:
Background windows update and update features in windows cause slow performance and slow down your internet connectivity. Setting a connection to metered can improve Windows PC’s performance and prevents Windows from using bandwidth in various ways. To metered a Wi-Fi connection follow the steps below –
i. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
ii. Click the name of the Wi-Fi connection to which you are currently connected.
iii. Now Track down and enable the “Set as metered connection” option.
Windows, on the other hand, will remember this option, and whenever you click, that specific Wi-Fi network will always be treated as a metered network. When you disconnect from the Wi-Fi network and reconnect to a non-metered Wi-Fi network, Windows 10 resumes automatically downloading updates and allowing you to use the other restricted functions. You will always have to set your new Wi-Fi connection to metered to stop automatic updates.
5. Check Your Storage Space settings:
Deleting unnecessary and temporary files also helps to improve the performance of Windows PC. Windows 10 helps in managing your storage space. To find it,
i. Go back to the Settings app.
ii. Select System > Storage.
iii. Turn on the given toggle.
iv. This section summarizes your system’s primary storage utilization, including how much space apps and features take up and enormous files and folders, temporary files, and so on. A blue bar should typically indicate how close to complete the storage usage is. When the bar show red then there is a problem, and you must clean your storage by uploading files to other drives (or by deleting them).
v. This feature can guide you to find what to delete (or unload other storage devices), but there are a few things you should notice that does not uninstall any kind of Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables, even if you see many of them in the “Apps & features” section. It appears to be redundant, but different programs rely on other versions.
6. Change PC’s restart settings:
When your PC restarts automatically because of any system or program update, In Windows 10, there is by default setting that starts reopening all programs that were open before restart or shutdown. It is a very good feature, but it can affect performance.
To turn off this default setting –
i. Open the Settings app of Windows 10.
ii. Select Accounts > Sign-In Options from the Settings app.
iii. Uncheck the box next to “Use My Sign-In Info to Automatically Finish Setting Up My Device and Reopen My Apps After An Update Or Restart.”
7. Perform malware scan:
When a device begins to run slowly, it could be a sign of malware infection. Viruses, spyware, and other types of malware are known to consume a large number of system resources, rendering a device unusable. Although Windows 10 includes Microsoft Defender Antivirus, this does not guarantee that malware will not infiltrate the system. If you suspect the computer has been infected, perform a full virus scan.
To perform a full virus scan on Windows 10 follow the steps given below.
i. Go to windows settings > Update & Security > Windows security > Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
ii. Click on the Scan options option under the “Current threats” section.
iii. Choose the Full scan option.
iv. Scan now by clicking the Scan Now button.
8. Turn Off your PC’s visual effects:
Similar to other Windows OS, Windows 10 also utilizes visual effects that can reduce the performance of your windows computer. These include things like animations, shadow effects, window transparency, and so on.
Windows 10’s default setting of visual effect is commonly best but you can also change this default setting by following the steps below –
i. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System
ii. Click on the Advanced system setting (left menu).
iii. In the performance, section click on the setting.
iv. Click on the option that shows “Adjust For Best Performance,” then click on “Apply.”
v. Another option is to manually go through the list and uncheck anything you do not want to use.
This change is unlikely to impact high-end and mid-range machines significantly, but budget devices with weaker CPUs and limited RAM may benefit.
9. Switching off search indexing:
Although Windows search is a very useful feature to find apps, settings, and files, on the other hand, it can consume many resources, which can decrease the performance of your windows PC – especially on low-end Windows devices. To fix this problem you can exclude all search locations if you keep your PC’s file in an organized way.
Follow the steps given below to configure or set up the indexer to improve system performance on Windows 10.
i. Go to Settings > Search > Searching Windows.
ii. Click the Advanced Search Indexer Settings option. You can find it under the “More Search Indexer Settings” section.
iii. Click the Modify button and then click Show all locations button.
iv. Under the “Change selected locations” section, clear all the selected locations.
v. Click the OK button then the Close button
These are the 9 ways that help you to optimize windows PC performance. You just do not want to do all these things then you can also use PC Repair tools which will optimize and clean your computer in 1 click. These ways will speed up your windows PC working and result in a better experience.
