America’s Cup is one of the most prestigious sailing events in the world. Omega’s association with the race dates back to 2000. While the brand became the Official Timekeeper of the sailing race, Omega has launched many America’s Cup edition models to commemorate the partnership.
However, the brand has designed the latest commemorative version based on the Seamaster Diver 300M chronograph. The watch features various America’s Cup-themed design components and functionalities intended exclusively for yacht racing.
Please continue reading to find out more about one of the unique Omega Seamaster America’s Cup Special-Edition watches.
The new Seamaster Diver America’s Cup Chronograph
Omega designed the new Seamaster Diver America’s Cup Chronograph based on the latest Seamaster generation. The watch houses Omega’s patented Co-Axial Calibre 9900 movement.
- The movement is Master Chronometer certified.
- And it boasts an antimagnetic rating of 15,000gauss.
Overall, the commemorative Seamaster America’s Cup watch’s aesthetic is very similar to the Seamaster’s existing collection. However, the latest model comes with several unique features mainly designed to compete in yacht racing.
The latest Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph features a 44mm stainless steel case, a unidirectional rotatable bezel and a blue ceramic dial. However, the white enamel 60-minute scale engraved on the blue ceramic bezel boosts the watch’s legibility and appeal.
The blue dial flaunted the line’s signature laser engraved wave-pattern designed. Moreover, the brand equipped the watch with a helium escape valve near the 10 o’clock side on the case’s side.
The Significant Regatta Features
Omega did not furnish the new Seamaster 300M America’s Cup edition with the usual chronograph counter at the 3 o’clock side. Instead, the watch comes with a new regatta countdown display ring crafted of red anodized aluminium. The watchmaker also offered a rotatable hour disc beneath the sub-dial to magnify the countdown display’s readability.
The dial features luminescent hour markers, a minute red hand of anodized aluminium and a date window at the 6 o’clock side. However, Omega designed the rhodium-plated seconds hand taking inspiration from a boat hull’s shape.
There is also a red anodized aluminium central seconds hand that exhibits America’s Cup trophy’s outline on the counterweight.
Omega’s Unique Chrono Lock System
The Omega Seamaster Diver America’s Cup edition features soft rubber pushers that provide maximum grip and response during wet condition. However, these pushers activate the watch and its countdown indicator ring. The start/stop pusher is coded with red colour, while the reset pusher comes in blue.
Moreover, Omega equipped the watch with the brand’s patented Chrono Lock system. It would prevent the timepiece from activation accidentally. The Chrono Lock system comes as a sliding switch placed in the middle of the case and bezel close to the 8 o’clock side.
A New Quick-Release Bracelet System
With the new Seamaster Diver America’s Cup watch, a unique patented quick-change bracelet system debuted. However, the significant fact is that the new timepiece’s case and lugs feature a completely standard design. The quick-release bracelet system of other watches can typically use patented straps and bracelets.
But you can fit any traditional bracelet or strap to the new Seamaster America’s Cup version using common spring-bars. Well, Omega offers the watch in both a blue rubber strap and a stainless steel bracelet. However, the rubber strap comes with a steel tang buckle complementing the blue ceramic bezel and dial.
Furthermore, Omega fitted the rubber strap and metal bracelet with a small push button on the lower side close to where they affix to the case. The Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph is the first watch within Omega’s catalogue to have this quick change bracelet system.
The Seamaster Special-Edition Launch
Turn back the new Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph, and you will see the case-back engraved with the event and celebration years. However, the texts “Auckland 2021” and “36th America’s Cup” are carved along the transparent sapphire case-back’s outer edge.
Moreover, the watchmaker filled both the engravings with blue lacquer for matching the ceramic bezel and dial. Now, the fascinating fact is –
Omega will not restrict the production of the new Seamaster America’s Cup Chronograph to specific numbers. And this is indeed excellent news for those looking to upgrade their watch collection with unique regatta watches from Omega.
This Omega regatta watch comes with a special-edition presentation box, finished in blue and red colours of the America’s Cup event. However, the box consists of an additional blue rubber strap, warranty cards and other accessories.
America’s Cup 36th edition yacht race will be held in Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour from March 6th to March 21st. The two teams participating in this race are Italy’s Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and Emirates Team New Zealand. Interestingly, these two teams will be competing with one another after 21years.
Their first match took place in 2000, and Omega became the Official Timekeeper of America’s Cup for the first time this year. However, Omega will serve as the Official Timekeeper of this revered yacht race this year for the third time.
Well, the brand also has an enduring collaboration with Emirates Team New Zealand. Omega has crafted several special edition timepieces to commemorate this partnership. America’s Cup is also known as the Auld Mug. The winner of the yacht race receives America’s Cup award.
